Barton Creek has been a private address since 1986. Forty years of one main entrance, one guard station, one answer to who gets past it: members, homeowners, their guests. That has been the established arrangement, whether residents play golf or never touch a club.
This fall, three separate public-facing developments are taking place in quick succession. A public festival just wrapped inside the resort gates. Six new houses opened for nightly rental half a mile from the clubhouse. And in November, for the first time in the community's history, the PGA TOUR is playing golf on a Barton Creek course rather than a course across town. None of these are hypothetical. All three are dated, priced, and already underway.
Forty Years of One Way In
Barton Creek Country Club describes itself as a place where golf, wellness, and community come together, calling itself more than a destination, "a way of life." That framing has always depended on scarcity. Club membership runs separate from home ownership here, and the resort's four championship courses, Fazio Foothills, Fazio Canyons, the Coore Crenshaw designed Cliffside, and Palmer Lakeside up near Lake Travis in Spicewood, have functioned as private inventory for members and resort guests, not a public amenity.
That is the context for the next three sections.
The Free Weekend That Already Happened
On September 6, Barton Creek hosted its Labor Day weekend Barton Fest, an afternoon of live music, food, and artisan vendors held right on resort grounds. Americana artist Katrina Cain played, presented by Big Hat Spirits. Vendors were curated in partnership with Anne Twomey and Cristi Petti. Admission was complimentary and open to the public.
A community built around a guarded entrance opened it, for a day, to anyone who wanted breakfast tacos and live music with no membership card required. Two days later came another announcement.
A Half Mile From the Clubhouse, Six New Front Doors
On September 8, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa began taking bookings for a new kind of stay: standalone Resort Homes, six of them, sitting about half a mile from the main resort complex at 8212 Barton Club Drive. Each is roughly 2,500 square feet with four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, a covered patio with a grill, a full kitchen, and a private six seat golf cart included in the rate, which starts at $1,500 a night. Guests get daily housekeeping, room service, and full run of the resort's amenities, plus a menu of add ons that includes private chefs and pre stocked groceries. The homes sit near the resort's 13,000 square foot Mokara Spa, which has 20 treatment rooms and a rooftop adults only pool overlooking the Hill Country.
What makes this different from a hotel room is the address. These are not rooms inside a lodge. They are freestanding houses on resort land, rented nightly.

Three separate developments, involving separate operators, fall within a ten-week stretch.
The Tour Comes Through Your Gate, Not Someone Else's
The biggest of the three is also the one with the longest memory attached to it. Austin last hosted a PGA TOUR event in March 2023, when the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play wrapped its eight year run at Austin Country Club, a different club entirely, on the other side of town along Lake Austin. That tournament raised more than $7 million for local charities between 2016 and 2023, crowning champions including Scottie Scheffler, Dustin Johnson, and Jason Day before the PGA TOUR restructured its schedule and dropped it after that final 2023 event.
This November, the Tour returns to Austin, and this time it is not borrowing someone else's clubhouse. The inaugural Good Good Championship runs November 9 through 15, 2026, at Barton Creek's own Fazio Canyons Course, a 7,433 yard, par 72 layout that architect Tom Fazio originally designed in 1999 and recently renovated, winding through limestone cliffs and the Short Spring Branch creek. The field holds 120 players competing for 500 FedExCup points, with coverage on Golf Channel and PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+, Sirius XM, and the World Feed. Tickets went on sale in March 2026 with general admission starting at $80, sold to the public, not restricted to members.
Every prior season of PGA TOUR golf in this city has run through that other clubhouse, not this one. This is the first year it means the course a Barton Creek resident can see from their own street.
What Actually Changes for Someone Who Already Lives Here
None of this requires anyone to do anything differently day to day for most of the fall. The practical shift lands hardest in that second week of November, when a 120 player field, a full broadcast production, and a public gallery move onto Fazio Canyons for a week. Expect more traffic through the resort's main entrance, more unfamiliar cars in shared parking, and more golf cart and pedestrian activity around the clubhouse than a typical November week brings. Residents whose daily walk or drive passes anywhere near Barton Club Drive should plan for a noticeably busier corridor from November 9 through 15.
Six houses is not a large number, but the Resort Homes add a nightly rental option on resort land.
Barton Fest already came and went without much disruption, a single Sunday afternoon open to the public.
